The FNC comprises 40 members, eight each from Abu Dhabi and Dubai, six each from Sharjah and Ras al-Khaima, and four from Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, and Fujairah. Until 2006 all FNC members were nominated for two-year terms by the rulers of the respective emirates.
