She is also hired to be the ghostwriter for Cecil’s wife Astrid, who is anxious to release her memoir. I actually thought it was a fabulous, subtle message that we are all more than the labels society slaps on us. I liked both Rebecca and Mickey’s characters, and I empathized with both at different times when they were faced with troubling decisions. I also loved the multi-faceted relationships they both developed with the Stones.

As she has difficulty sleeping, she pays someone to read to her, sometimes until as late as four in the morning. She had recently gone through the manuscript of a biography based on the life of her mother, Alma Spreckels, of the sugar family, a dominant figure in San Francisco society in the early decades of the century. “Those other people,” the 50 percent she was talking about, referred to what is most commonly called “the Jewish thing,” about which no one likes to commit himself, although it is a constant in conversation. One man told me, “Palm Beach is the only unabashedly Wasp community left in the United States, but we’re up-front about it.” Other people consider Palm Beach a bastion of anti-Semitism. Because the Bath and Tennis and the Everglades clubs are restricted, the rich Jews of Palm Beach are ineligible for membership.
Started with an all-volunteer board that continues to this day, community volunteerism is encouraged as an important way to provide reassurance and cheer to hospitalized adults and children. Community support through financial and in-kind donations are the lifeline in fulfilling our mission. A very significant event has occurred in the life of our Diocese of Palm Beach. On Oct. 24, we celebrated 40 years from the foundation of our Diocese... We have been a Diocese for 40 years and have grown and experienced much in that time. Forty years may not seem like a long period of time in contrast to the life of the Church for over 2,000 years.
Thinking skills is an intriguing course that allows candidates to develop a specific set of transferable intellectual skills, independent of subject content. The focus is on development of skills in Critical Reasoning and Problem Solving. Students must have a “true desire to think”, a willingness to be intellectually involved in group discussions and motivated to improve their skills at thinking. Candidates practice making informed decisions based on sound logical reasoning. Reflection on the outcome facilitates improvement of future decisions. The curriculum creates opportunities for and encourages free and open debate, critical and investigative thinking, and informed and disciplined reasoning.
