In general, we're either neurotypical or neurodiverse but the truth is, we all learn and experience the world in a way unique to us. However, neurodivergence brings many strengths and patterns of unique thinking that benefit our communities and workplaces. While many companies are recognising the benefits of hiring neurodivergent employees, the majority of people with autism (85%) are unemployed, according to Deloitte, compared with less than 5% of the overall population.

The Welsh Government Autism Strategic Action Plan, Integrated Autism Service (IAS), the Autism Code of Practice, along with charity organisations, are shaping the autism narrative in Cardiff. These are a step in the right direction and will help foster greater inclusion for those with autism. I hope to continue this forward progress by lending my 20+ years of clinical expertise and professional services by offering private autism assessments in Cardiff. I’m Anne Marie Gallagher, a Speech and Language Therapist with a BSc, and a member of both RCSLT and ASILTIP. Based in the UK, I’ve spent over 25 years conducting professional adult autism assessments in Cardiff, including clinical interventions for autistic adults with the NHS. The team of appropriately trained clinicians, all experts in diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder in adults, will complete an online neurodiversity assessment.

However, we encourage you to think positively about your disability, your strengths and skills and how you add value and diversity to the world of work. Celebrating and recognising neurodivergent individuals is not only a matter of respect and dignity, but a matter of social justice and human rights. Neurodivergent individuals have the right to be accepted, valued, and included in all aspects of life, and to have their voices heard and their needs met. With over 27,000 people living with autism in Wales, we recognised the need to supply face-to-face appointments at more locations. Waiting months for an autism or ADHD diagnosis can be stressful and opening our Cardiff clinic means private assessments are now more readily available in South Wales. The Equality Act 2010 provides a broad, informative definition of a ‘disability’ that can help you to determine if you may qualify for support. Each funding option will have differing eligibility criteria and its own application process.

On the site you will find information about what neurodivergence is, and  what services and training opportunities are available online and across Wales. The website is helping to deliver the Welsh Government ND vision and strategy and has a key place in ensuring that Wales is a neurodivergent friendly nation. Every student deserves to feel included, supported, and comfortable discussing their autism.
The resources are aimed at increasing the knowledge, skills, understanding of neurodivergence and practical tools for parents/carers of neurodivergent people. We help families and individuals stuck on waiting lists to get the diagnostic assessments and pre, during, and post-diagnostic support that public services struggle to provide promptly. Some people with autism might find physical touch, even if it is done with affection and respect, very unpleasant. Several people struggle to find food with a taste or texture that appeals to them. These sensitivities, though often a fundamental part of being neurodiverse, can be very difficult for the individual with autism and as difficult to understand for others who do not suffer from autism.
